Skin Cancer Screening

Operation Sun SCREEN conducts free, voluntary skin cancer screening events led by board-certified dermatologists and supervised trainees. Our screenings are all run by residency trained dermatologists, and our outreach efforts utilize the AAD's Spot Skin Cancer Screening program to run screening exercises.

What Happens at a Screening

  • Visual skin examinations by trained dermatology professionals
  • Identification of lesions that may warrant further evaluation
  • Education on warning signs of skin cancer
  • Guidance on next steps and follow-up care

Screenings are not diagnostic visits and do not replace comprehensive dermatologic care.

Professional Standards

All screenings are conducted with respect for privacy, informed consent, and clear communication regarding limitations and follow-up. Clinical oversight and volunteer training are central to maintaining quality and trust.

All screening events are organized under the AAD Spot Skin Cancer Model.

Sun-Safety Education

Education is a core component of every Operation Sun SCREEN event. We provide practical and tailored guidance recognizing unique exposure patterns in aviation and outdoor occupations.

We Provide

  • Practical guidance on sun protection strategies
  • Information about UV exposure risks in aviation and outdoor occupations
  • Counseling on self-skin exams and when to seek medical care
  • Materials tailored to pilots, aircrew, and outdoor professionals

Community & Aviation Outreach

By embedding screenings into existing gatherings, we reduce barriers to care and reach individuals who may otherwise delay evaluation.
